The Best Web Hosting For WordPress

Best Web Host For WordPress

As an affiliate marketer, it would be silly for you to NOT have a website. There are many ways you can earn money through affiliate marketing without a website (social media marketing, cold calling, PPC, etc.), but for most affiliate marketers, having a high quality website is the #1 source of revenue, myself included. My affiliate websites are my lifeblood, but I can’t say the same about my social media accounts or other forms of advertising. Without my websites, I’d probably not have a business.

Many of you might feel a bit intimidated to set up a website because there is just so much to it. However, for every passing year, building a website with no web building experience at all is becoming easier and easier. One of the most popular web building platforms for affiliate marketers is WordPress. Truth be told, ALL of my websites are now on the WordPress platform. There is simply no better way to go. Even if you don’t know any computer code at all, you can learn how to build a fantastic WordPress website that looks and functions great on all devices in a single day. Unfortunately, you might find that the challenges have just begun. While building a site is easy, maintaining it can be a different story.

The Problem With Hosting A WordPress Website

I’m going to be honest here… I don’t know a whole lot about web servers, databases, backups, security, and all the other things that go along with hosting a website. Most people don’t. If that describes you well, you will NOT want to set up web hosting with any of the traditional web hosts such as HostGator, BlueHost, GoDaddy, or anything like that. You will want to use a web host that is set up specifically for WordPress and one where they will manage the servers for you.

The Web Host I Use For My WordPress Sites

All of my WordPress sites (dozens of them) are now hosted by a company called WPengine. I have been using WPengine for a couple of years now and wouldn’t recommend any other web host besides them for those with WordPress websites that don’t know a lot about server management and maintenance.

PLEASE NOTE: The above link that I supplied to WPengine is NOT an affiliate link. I don’t make a single dime if you decide to sign up with them. This is just my honest and unbiased opinion based on personal experiences.

Before I get into the reasons why WPengine is the best web host for WordPress sites, let me quickly tell you my story (and struggles) about how I found them.

Why I Ditched HostGator.com

For a long time, I was using a special service called Site Build It to develop my websites. That company is very proprietary in nature and I was no longer happy with their service, so I had to make the decision to transfer my existing Site Build It! websites to WordPress.

Transferring the sites to WordPress was a tedious experience, but it was relatively straightforward. I knew that HostGator was a very popular web host and decided to go with them. Big mistake.

The problems I had with HostGator first started because my website traffic exceeded the basic web hosting plan I was subscribed to. I basically woke up one morning and discovered they were blocking people from accessing my sites. No warnings, no phone calls, no emails… nothing. They just stopped displaying my sites, just like that. If that wasn’t aggravating enough, when I called their “24 hour customer support line” I was told the wait time was 45 freakin’ minutes. Since the wait time was so long, I also opened a live chat support window. After about 40 minutes of waiting on hold, my call was disconnected. About 20 minutes later, my chat was disconnected too. I ended up having to send an email, which took over 24hrs to get a response. I was livid.

Then, several weeks later, I woke up and found out all of my sites had been hacked. Anytime I tried to visit one of my sites, I got a giant red screen that said “WARNING: The site you are trying to access contains malware.” Everyone who tried to visit my site got that warning, and Google also flagged my site as being a site with malware. So, I had the pleasure of contacting a security company and opened an emergency ticket with them. That ended up costing me several hundred dollars, but my site was back on track. I also decided to sign up for a very expensive site security service so that wouldn’t happen again.

Fast forward another couple of weeks and my sites were offline once again, because I had exceeded my allowed bandwidth. Once again, I opened a support ticket. After 24hrs with no response and multiple attempts to reach a support person, I decided it was time to find a new host.

Why I Chose WPengine For My WordPress Web Host

What appealed to me about WPengine is they ONLY deal with WordPress websites. That right there was something that piqued my interest. I then found out that they not only host the site, but they take care of EVERYTHING. From site security to automatic backups and everything else you’d need for a WordPress site – it’s all there. In fact, their entire package was cheaper than the security company I was paying to keep my sites safe on WordPress. I’d actually SAVE money by switching. Plus, I could also cancel my website backup services because WPengine includes that. They also will not cut you off automatically if you exceed your bandwidth. You receive notifications ahead of time AND they offer some leeway just in case you go over on accident. Here is a video by about how to create a new site in WPengine…

My Experiences So Far With WPengine

So far, I’ve been extremely pleased with WPengine. It did take a little while to learn how to set up a site initially becuase they do not use the same “Cpanel” that most other web hosts have. Anytime I’ve had any issues, however, contacting their support team has been a breeze. I have spoken to their support teams both through chat and also on the phone. I don’t ever remember waiting more than 5 minutes and usually it’s right away.

As of this writing, I have never had any of my sites hacked. I have had to use their backup restoration service because of things I’ve messed up on my own, and it always works like a charm. They also keep track of any security vulnerabilities in plugins and will alert me if there is a potential issue.

I have also enjoyed having access to their content delivery network (CDN). Basically, a CDN is when your site is hosted on multiple servers around the world. When someone wants to access your site, it is automatically delivered from the nearest server, ensuring my sites load up quickly for everyone. There are many other included perks that I have enjoyed.

In short, switching to WPengine is the best decision I’ve made for website hosting. Some people complain they are a bit more expensive than other hosting services, but with the headaches I’ve saved and the security I feel being with them, I have no issues paying a few extra bucks.

A Few Final Thoughts

As I stated earlier, I have absolutely no affiliation with WPengine other than the fact they host my websites. None of the links in this article are affiliate links and I get nothing if you sign up with them. I just wanted to share my personal experiences because it seems most of the “guru’s” out there always recommend the same ol’ hosting companies like HostGator, of whom I’ve had terrible experiences with.

If you know a lot about how to manage web servers and keep your sites safe from hackers, I think HostGator probably is a more economical way to go. However, if you aren’t all that technical and would rather focus on creating great content for your site instead of messing with servers, go with a service like WPengine.

Hey thanks for the feedback and I’m glad to see GoDaddy hosting is working out well for you. I use GoDaddy for almost all of my domain registrations but have never used their hosting service. Best of luck with your blog!
