Everyone wants to increase SEO and rank higher in the search engines, but nobody thinks about the long-term implications of their SEO tactics. In this article, I will talk about how to increase SEO for the long-term in a way that is sustainable for your business.

5. Content Is King If You Want To Increase SEO
If you are already familiar with SEO, than you already know that content is king. It might not be the answer you want to hear, but this is the #1 way to improve your SEO and it will improve it for the long-term, not just right now. Don’t like writing content? This is something you can actually outsource these days. Some services I’ve personally used include:
Just remember, content is what separates you from the other guys. If you spend $5 for a 1,000 word article, don’t expect it to be very high quality. I very highly recommend you write your own content, but even outsourced content is better than none. A website without fresh content will have a very tough time ranking above an equal site with fresh content. Plus, the more you write, the more keywords you can rank for. Content really is King and essential if you want to increase SEO.
4. Diversify Your Traffic Sources To Increase SEO
Are you active on social media? Do you use email marketing? Have you uploaded some quality videos to YouTube? Are you using PPC advertising? Have you tried using offline advertising?
Many website owners rely way too much on search engines instead of diversifying their traffic sources. I’ve been guilty of this myself. Search traffic is just so darn easy, it’s super targeted, and it never costs you a dime. But did you know diversifying your traffic sources can have a direct effect if you want to increase SEO?
When you use email marketing, for example, your repeat visitor numbers go through the roof. Google LOVES to see visitors returning time and time again to the same website. People also tend to share those emails with others, essentially marketing your website for you to their own close friends and family, and the cycle continues. While email marketing won’t directly increase SEO, the residual effects will definitely help.
Social media is also an excellent traffic source and another great way to increase SEO. People on social media are usually just passing time at their leisure, so when you gain traffic from places like Facebook, they tend to stick around and stay on the site for a while, increasing the average time your visitors spend on your site. And since they are active on social media, chances are higher they will share your content. This is all good for SEO.
3. Check Your Site Speed
Google and other search engines LOVE fast websites and this is a great way to increase SEO easily. People are very impatient, especially when they are using mobile devices on slower networks. If your site doesn’t load within the first few seconds, you will lose people, increasing your bounce rate (the number of people who only visit one page on your site then leave). Increasing your site speed could have an immediate effect on your SEO. The best way to do this is to reduce image sizes or sign up for an outsourced service like the Google Website Speed Service.
2. Use A Responsive Design
Having a “mobile friendly” website doesn’t really cut it. You need to have a fully responsive website if you want to maximize your sites potential and increase SEO. A responsive site is different from a mobile friendly site in that it will automatically resize and fit perfectly for any device. Even when future devices are released with differing screen sizes, your site will still look fine on them. If you haven’t switched to a responsive design already, you should definitely do so now.
1. Clean Up Your Link Profile
If you have a bunch of spammy links pointing into your website, that could be harming your SEO. You can check a full list of every link pointing into your website by setting up a Google Webmaster Tools account. You might be surprised at the number of really low quality websites linking to you. My website Drive-Safely.net was being linked to by Russian porn sites and I still to this day have no idea how that happened. If you do see a bunch of low quality links pointing into your site, you can use the Google Disavow Tool and let Google know you do not want those links to factor into your SEO. Just be careful not to disavow any good links as this could have a negative effect on your SEO.
Of course, as we progress into the future, the main factor for SEO will be to simply provide a great user experience for your website visitors. As long as you consistently improve your site to provide an even greater experience, you should see your SEO go up over time.
