Deciding to get into affiliate marketing can be a great way to make money online in a subject that you’re interested in, or passionate about. That interest is vitally important to your success in being able to engage an audience, retain them, and eventually see that audience retention turn into clicks that you can get paid for as an affiliate marketer. Success in affiliate marketing can be a great amount of fun, but don’t mistake that as being the same thing as easy. One of the biggest affiliate marketing tips I give to new affiliate marketers is to write truly engaging content that readers will go crazy over.

You need to do something to keep people coming back to your website and motivate them to learn more about your affiliate, and one of the best ways to do this is by producing new content that keeps them interested.

So how do you do that? There are three basic content production approaches you can take, and we have affiliate marketing tips for each one.

Affiliate Marketing Tips For Articles & Blog Posts

Just like what you’re reading now, text is still the king when it comes to media delivery on the Internet. It’s low bandwidth, relatively easy to generate—assuming you have a skill for writing—and can be quickly consumed. Of course, the operative word here is “engagement.” You can’t just put a bunch of keywords randomly thrown together into a blog post or article, post the same thing once or twice a day, and then sit back and watch as people come to your website and click on your affiliates.

In the same way that you avoid websites you have no reason to go to, other people are the same. You need to write something that is related to your affiliate of choice, which is why passion and/or interest is an important component of choosing an affiliate. This means, for example, that if your affiliate sells skin care products and you know nothing about skin care and have no desire to learn, then this will be a bad fit that’s likely to end unproductively for both of you. On the other hand, if your affiliate is for fishing tackle and other products and you are a true blue fly fishing enthusiast, you’ll be happy to write about fishing all day, all week, all month and all year. And you’re likely to build an audience that’s glad you’re doing it.

Affiliate Marketing Tips For Podcasts

Meet the new radio for the 21st century. A podcast is a step up from writing articles, but the depth and detail of the content is often the same. Taking the time to get decent audio recording equipment and then either doing a solo podcast, or rustling up others with a similar interest is another good way to get a regular audience that checks in to your website to see what’s new. When giving people my affiliate marketing tips about podcasts and how to use them in affiliate marketing strategies, many people balk at the idea saying podcasts are outdated. Believe it or not, podcasts are still a GREAT way to reach many types of audiences.

For people that aren’t big on writing, but are excellent conversationalists and are easy to listen to, this is a very effective strategy and may be one of the best affiliate marketing tips you’ll hear as creating a podcast is super easy. Simply set up a regular schedule where you can record your podcast, pick topics of interest, discuss them in depth and then edit for either timing or content concerns, and put it out for people to listen to. Podcasts are a popular alternative for people to listen to when they’re driving or commuting. If you have the “gift of gab,” this particular affiliate marketing tip is a no-brainer. Podcasts can be a fun and an easy way to build up an audience if you have a topic you would normally discuss in conversation anyway. Why not turn that idle chit-chat into real profit?

Video Content

For some, there simply is no better alternative, and for others, this is the option that may require the most work. Video content has taken the world the by storm, especially with the drop in costs for both production equipment like cameras and editing software, and means of broadcast. The Internet has made it possible for anyone to create a video and put it out in public where potentially millions of people can view it. Of course, that also means other people have the same idea, which is why it’s important to do something that stands out from the rest of the crowd. Those seeking affiliate marketing tips for video based content will quickly realize that simply creating videos isn’t enough. It must be high quality and that takes a lot more work than many perceive when they first start out.

Video content can be as simple as turning on a camera and talking directly to it—the video equivalent of a podcast—or it can be elaborate, with transitions, acting, and even a story. Or it can fall somewhere in between, such as instructional “how-to” videos, or reviews of products with insightful criticisms and recommendations. It’s really all a matter of where your strengths lie, and just how many resources you’re willing to devote. Video content can be extremely expensive, or you can do it very cheaply depending on your ambitions. But, as with the other forms of content, you must engage the audience. Whether that’s through charismatic presenting, smart editing, or some other aspect of video production that you’re good at, you should play to you strengths.

The Right Choice

In a perfect world, we’d all be multi-talented and able to do many things extremely well, so you have to take these affiliate marketing tips in stride as well as know your own strengths and weaknesses. Some people may actually have the time and ability to produce good writing, good podcasts and good video content, and put all of this on their website. And that, in turn, can potentially be a very strong draw for people on the Internet to stop, consume, and regularly return to see what’s new.

But even if you’re not a master of all three forms, if you have friends or know people that are, you can always turn to them for a little help from time to time. Even if you create great videos, for example, some people won’t want to watch a 20 minute video when they are fast readers and could consume the same content in less than five minutes with a succinct article. And even when people love your writing, sometimes they feel more engagement and connection when they listen to your voice and hear you interact with other people.

There are many ways to create engaging content for your website. The trick is to find out which ways are the most effective for you, and then exploit your strengths.
